Windsor successfully defend title at Marlow
Windsor under 8's A team put their undefeated record on the line in the defence of their title at the Marlow mini rugby tournament on Sunday.

The superbly organised and run tournament attracted many of the strongest teams in the South of England which resulted in many hard fought matches producing top quality tag rugby.

Windsor, once again, rose to the occasion producing a magnificent team performance with the defence again proving impenetrable to all but the best opposition.  In six very competitive matches, only 8 tries were conceded all day.

In the league stages, Windsor started well with an impressive 30 points to NIL victory over local rivals Maidenhead.  This was followed by an exciting 20 points to 10 win over a quality Bath team who were eventually worn down by the strength of the Windsor defence.

This set up an enthralling encounter with Beaconsfield who, all agreed, were the best opposition faced all season.  Windsor started slowly and found themselves trailing by 15 points to 5 at half time to a rampart Beaconsfield who were attacking with both flair and pace.

The Windsor coaching team produced an inspirational half time team talk and sent the boys out in fighting mood for the second half.  The transformed Windsor team produced a stunning fight back scoring 2 second half tries to no reply from Beaconsfield, with fluent attacking rugby and resolute defence.  At the final whistle the two teams stood locked together at 15 points each.

This meant the qualification for the final would depend on try difference and Windsor set about demolishing the remaining opposition in a desperate rush for tries.  Marlow "Dawson" were swept aside by 35 points to 5.  This Windsor try bonanza, combined with Beaconsfield's low scoring final game, left Windsor needing only to win their league match against London Irish to proceed through to the final.

The boys duly produced some of their best rugby defeating London Irish by 20 points to NIL.

This set up the dream final against hosts Marlow, with all their home support in good voice.  Despite this vocal but good natured support, Marlow were no match for the now super confident Windsor team who swept through the final by 25 points to 10.

Captain for the final, Sean-Paul Mackenzie, lifted the trophy for the team and promised to be back next year to make it 3 in a row!
