The search has begun for young Londoners to carry the Olympic torch as it travels to Athens for this year's games.
London Mayor Ken Livingstone and British Olympic Association bosses this morning launched a campaign to recruit youngsters for the honour of carrying the symbol of the Olympic movement.
The torch will pass through 34 countries on its way to Greece, stopping in London for celebrations in Trafalgar Square in late June.
Schools, youth groups and further education colleges will be encouraged to nominate young people who could get the opportunity to run alongside some of Britain's leading Olympians as the flame passes through the capital.
London Mayor Ken Livingstone said the torch relay would allow London to share in the spirit of the Olympics.
"People from all over the country will act as torchbearers, but we particularly want London's young people to have the opportunity to take part in this historic event," he said.
The relay will begin at Wimbledon, on the middle Saturday of the 2004 Championships (26 June), before continuing through London's communities and landmarks, concluding with a celebration in the evening, organised by Visit London.
