Solihull Council has acknowledged the vital role of leisure and recreation in helping to meet it’s Corporate objectives and Local Public Service Agreement (LPSA) targets.
The Borough’s Leisure Services and Primary Care Trust has secured a slice of the Government’s £949,579 pump priming grant to assist in the delivery of two of the Council’s 12 LPSA targets:
- Re-integrating children “at risk” into mainstream education and leisure
- Reducing health inequalities and improving health outcomes through the GP referral scheme
Head of Community Services, Alice Davey said:
“We are one of the first local authorities in the country to secure funding for two leisure-related LPSA targets. Our physical activity interventions and youth diversionary programmes are seen as powerful tools in the fight against obesity, coronary heart disease, anti-social behaviour and crime reduction.”
On completion of the LPSA, should the Council deliver the agreed “stretches” in performance it will receive a further £378,357 per target in total.
Angela Gabb, Health Promotion Specialist, with Solihull PCT said,
“The GP referral in Solihull has been running for 10 years and is based on the national quality framework. Working jointly will allow us to triple the capacity of the scheme, which is already supported by every GP Practise in Solihull.”
The LPSA starts in April 2004 and lasts until April 2007.
