The British Wheelchair Sports Foundation is the national organisation for wheelchair sport in the UK and exists to provide, promote and develop opportunities for men, women and children with disabilities to participate in recreational and competitive wheelchair sport. In order to meet these objectives the Foundation . . .
- organises and hosts a number of major sports events each year at the National Wheelchair sports centre in Stoke Mandeville
- acts as the umbrella body for 17 different wheelchair sports associations and provides the venue and facilities (complete with accommodation and catering) for training and development weekends throughout the year
- is developing regional sports camps for disabled children aged 6-11
- is undergoing extensive redevelopment in order to ensure the continued provision of high quality sports and leisure facilities into the new millennium
- provides a comprehensive information service for those wishing to participate in wheelchair sport, as well as coaches, teachers, students and anyone interested in disabled sport.
