Welton Sailing Club is based on Welton Waters. Welton Waters is a group of former Clay Pits located on the banks of the Humber estuary about 3 Miles from the Humber Bridge. The lake we sail on is one of the largest sailing lakes in the area, having an area of some 100 acres. It is a safe and an ideal place to learn to sail, as well as providing an excellent racing location. There are no shallows or weed problems, and the lake usually enjoys good steady winds, being open to the Humber Estuary to the south, and to flat land on the other three sides.

The lake area is very quiet and has an "away from it all" feeling. It is also a popular area for walkers and for picnics. Access is good being situated just off the main A63 Hull to Leeds Road. It is therefore easy to get to from Hull, Beverley, Brough and surrounding areas, as well as from North Lincolnshire via the Humber Bridge.

We have a new well equipped clubhouse which was completed in 1996. There are full changing facilities with hot showers, (who said a hot shower was the best bit of a winters afternoon sailing!) All facilities are design for disabled access and we welcome all disabled members. The Club owns a number of dinghies, from a small training dinghy, to a couple of Toppers and an Access Disabled sailing boat. These are available to hire to those members who would like to 'have a go' before deciding to buy their own boat.

The main sailing season runs from April to November, with racing on most Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings during the summer months. Sailing is possible through the Winter Months although no racing program is arranged. Laser and Enterprise are currently the main classes sailed at the club, but there are also Toppers, National 12s, Fireballs and Mirrors currently sailed at the Club. Any type of dinghy can be raced, on a handicap basis. Safety cover is always available when racing is taking place. (i.e. Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings). The Rescue boat is also available at other times but without a formal rota to provide a Driver.

Informal training can be arranged for those new to the sport, and we arrange several Saturday sessions during the season especially for beginners. Advice on buying a boat is available from members and there are usually second hand boats available for sale on the club notice board.

We share the water with the Yorkshire Water Ski Club and both water skiing and wind-surfing can be arranged for members. A number of social events are organised throughout the year, from BBQ's and Barn Dances to a simple get together in the pub for a meal and chat after an evening sailing. The club holds the annual Laying Up Supper and prize-giving at the end of the season, and then monthly social events are arranged during the winter months.

We also have ties with other local youth groups, such as the Sea Scouts. For the last few years we have also hosted the Sailing "Summer Scorcher" in conjunction with East Riding Council. This is a program to give school Kids chances to try new Sports during the Summer Holidays..
