1. HISTORY - The club originated as Clarendon Park Adult School and the premises were an old wooden 'hut' with two billiard tables and one table tennis table. Eventually one of the billiard tables was replaced by a second table tennis table. In the face of mounting maintenance costs, the old hut was demolished in 1979 and replaced by the brick-built structure we have today. Finance for the new building came from grants given by various organisations and from interest-free debenture loans provided by club members. The present club opened in 1980 and was used solely for table tennis - in the interim, matches were played at Overdale School. The name 'Knighton Park' was created when Byron & Knights (a factory team) joined forces with Clarendon Park.
2. FACILITIES - The club is registered with the English Table Tennis Association's PREMIER CLUB development programme (at PARTICIPATION level) and has recently been awarded the CLUBMARK accreditation. Currently there are some 150 members (inc. 70 youngsters) and through its membership structure the club offers opportunities to play competitive and/or social table tennis.
On Tuesday afternoons, a group of members (referred to as 'The Tuesday Club'), meet socially and play doubles.
