The Leicester & District Table Tennis League was established during 1932. It is still going strong and is still one of the ten largest local leagues in the United Kingdom.
From September through to April of each year, the League runs it's major competition currently featuring some six divisions and involving around 350 registered players. In addition to the league competition, it organises an open cup knockout competition and four cup competitions restricted to players in specific grading bands. In February/March of each year a League Closed Championship is organised, in which some 17 events featuring in excess of two hundred players are completed over a single day. Finally, although the summer period is in theory for resting, some hardy souls also organise and compete in a handicap tournament run to a unique formula involving three people per side and twenty games to a match which runs through from May to August - just nicely bridging the gap between the main League competitions.
