Buckley Girls Gymnastic Club was founded in 1974 and has continued to grow in strength and numbers over the years. For the past 27 years the Club has been under the guidance of Mr Stan Buckley who has spent many years studying and gathering information to enhance the quality of gymnastics not only in Buckley Gym Club but through out Wales as a whole. In November 2002 Stan Buckley decided to semi-retire from the Club, although he is still our Coaching Director he no longer trains our gymnasts on a regular basis. He has now handed over the reigns of the Club to his younger daughter Mrs Maxine Baker and together with the rest of the coaching staff and committee they hope to take this club forward to once again achieving the success we have had in the past.

Over the years we have boasted gymnasts in the Welsh and British Squads and Club members representing Wales in the 1986 and 1990 Commonwealth Games, 1991 Commonwealth Reserve and Welsh International Zoë Taylor. We have also won at International Level with a team of gymnasts and on an individual basis against the French and Dutch.

After taking some time out from competitive gymnastics and having replenished the membership within the club Buckley Girls Gymnastics has now re-entered the competitive field of gymnastics within North and South Wales, having completed a successful year of competitions we are all looking forward to 2004!

Buckley Gym Club is divided into the following classes:

Recreational:
Here at Buckley we are dedicated to the development of gymnasts both physically and socially and therefore acknowledge the fact that not everyone would like to be the next Olga Korbut, with this in mind we have a time slot dedicated to those who prefer not to perform at a competitive level.

Beginners:
Here it is the first step to gymnastic life!!! From here children within this class can decide whether they would like to turn their front rooms at home into a self made gym and start on the road to competitive gymnastics, the decision for this must be supported by the class coach who, in turn will strive to develop their ability to progress them as far as possible.

Novice:
So you have taken the plunge! And gymnastics is your way of life. This class is the next step and from here your ability will be assessed constantly to assist the coaches in helping you make the decision to jump onto that yellow brick road that will lead you to competitive gymnastics.

Intermediate:
Here we go! Within this class you will start to train twice weekly – Saturday afternoon and Monday evening. This step from once to twice a week prepares gymnasts both physically and mentally for the additional training that is undertaken within the advanced class. Your skills will be developed to a higher level and the syllabus of the NDP (National Development Plan) Grades Club and Compulsory will begin. Low - level competitions will also start for gymnasts within this class enabling you to learn all about the etiquette expected at competitions and the whole competition experience.

Advanced:
This is it! This class trains five days per week – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The class is set into three squads:

Pre-Elite
Junior-Elite
Senior-Elite

These squads are picked on the age/ability of the children. We attend on average 7 competitions per year (including our Club Championships). Also a club squad training session is held once a month and is run by Mr Stan Buckley. Gymnasts within this class are also assessed and may be picked to travel and train abroad when our club is invited.

So all in all a pretty exciting progression within the club. If you have any queries relating to training sessions, times, fees or just a general query please click on the Contact Us link.

PLEASE NOTE:

Buckley Girls Gymnastics Club cannot accept any gymnast under the age of 5 years.
