The first General Meeting of Henbury Golf Club was held in the Henbury Vicarage on December 10th, 1891. Membership was to be restricted to persons resident in Henbury with an additional maximum of thirty from outside the parish.

The subscription was fixed at 10s 6d per annum.

Three years later the course was enlarged by obtaining some ground to the southern side of Coombe Hill and this enabled ladies and gentlemen to play on partially separated courses!

In 1907 the course was extended to 18 holes. These were reduced temporarily during the 1914-1918 War to 9 holes and the holes which had lain fallow were redesigned and restored to play in 1920.

A massive leap forward in the Club's fortunes came in 1931 when the land was purchased giving the members total security. It was some 28 years later (1959) that a new Clubhouse was built. This still constitutes the main shell of the building to this day.

In 1996 the members decided to make another great investment and nearly £500K was spent on a new look for the course and a total refurbishment of the Clubhouse interior taking Henbury into the new millennium.

The Club has retained its sylvan charm despite being within easy reach of J17 of the M5 and close to the villages of Westbury on-Trym, Stoke Bishop and Henbury.

We are confident that you will enjoy the quality of the course and the ambience of the Clubhouse and that you will come back for more…
