The Achille Ratti Climbing Club was founded by Bishop T.B. Pearson in 1940 and named after Monsignor Achille Ratti, a parish priest in Northern Italy who was an accomplished climber. Monsignor Achille Ratti later became Pope Pius X1.
The club has a total membership of about 750. Members are active in a wide variety of outdoor activities including climbing, fell walking, fell running, mountain biking, and cycling.
The ARCC has 4 huts, 3 in the English Lake District and one in North Wales. They provide comfortable, ideally located accomodation to members and their guests.
The club holds meets throughout the year based at the Club Huts or other mountain locations. The organised meets cater for all tastes and levels of ability. Meets are held centered on a number of activities including rock climbing, winter fell walking, fell racing, mountain biking, low level walking, long distance fell walking, bird watching, barbecuing (very popular!) and an annual dinner.
