Inverness Ice Centre purchase by the users gets closer.

By Doug Ritchie

The curlers, skaters and hockey players, who use Inverness Ice Centre, have reached their first target in ensuring the purchase of ther ice rink. £70,000 has now been raised from loans and gifts from the members, which equates to 25% of the cost of purchasing the Ice Centre plus professional fees and Stamp Duty.

This effort was required as a pre-requisite of the application for £138,000, which will be considered by sportscotland later this month. An aplication for £69,000 will also be considered this month by the Inverness Area of Highland Council Common Good Fund, which in August approved  their support in principle.

The Board of Directors, which consists of seven from curling, two from skating and one from hockey, have an option to purchase the Inverness Ice Centre until 28th February 2003. They are currently operating it under licence with the existing owner, David Cameron of Upland Developments.
