Billabong British National Surfing Championships
4th September 2002The Billabong British National Surfing Championships takes place this weekend at Croyde Bay, North Devon. Britain’s tops surfers will be heading to one of North Devon’s best surfing locations to compete for this prestigious title.
The event is the longest running surfing competition in the UK, established as the national contest back in 1969, when Rodney Sumpter defeated fellow competitors to become the winner. Thirty-three years later the current defending champion John Buchorski will be hoping to hold on to his title at Croyde, however with record entries it will not be easy.
It will be divided into 12 divisions covering all aspects of surfing from Longboarding to Bodyboarding and Shortboard surfing in different age groups.
It all starts at 9.00am Friday 6th September.
