International success of British Gymnastics
11th September 2005British Gymnastics presented six candidates for positions in the Authorities of the European Gymnastics Union (UEG) - all six elected!
This, together with the highly and unanimously praised organisation the 21st Congress of the UEG in Birmingham 9th and 10th September 2005, made the event a huge success for the host nation and our second city.
The General Assembly elected PAUL GARBER as the 1st Vice President and re-elected LAWRENCE COULTON as the President of the Acrobatic Gymnastics Technical Committee.
The Executive Committee elected a further four British representatives as Members of the following Technical Committees:
LYN FAIRBROTHER - Women's Artistic Gymnastics TC
MARTIN LAWS- Trampoline Gymnastics TC
ROGER PITTMAN- General Gymnastics Gymnastics TC
KEITH HUGHES- TeamGym
The Opening of the Congress was attended by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr John Hood.
The fluent organisation of the Congress, the audio-visual presentations in the Congress Hall presented by Peter Bannister and the overall hospitality of the City received unanimous acclaim from all 150 delegates representing 40 nations.
Presentations of thanks were made by the President Dimitrios Dimitropoulos of Greece to Brian Stocks, President of British Gymnastics, Alex Craney, Birmingham City Council and Barbara Stephan, British Gymnastics for their outstanding contribution to the success of the Congress.
