Headworx Scottish BPSA Surfing Championships

23rd September 2002

Thurso East regarded by many surfers as one of the best waves in the World will be the venue for the fourth stop on the Headworx BPSA UK Tour. The event will attract some of the top surfers in Europe to compete for prize money and valuable points,

Spencer Hargraves (past European Professional Champion) after his win at the Headworx Freedom Jersey Open last weekend will be one of the favourites to win, along with tour leader Mark Harris who has made the final of all the events on the tour this year, finishing first, second and third respectively. Inform Alan Stokes (English Champion & Fat Face Night Surf Champion) and Nathan Philips (Headworx Welsh Champion & Surfing Life South Coast Champion) will also be looking for a good result. WQS ASP International surfers Llewellyn Whittaker and Richard Sills with their experience will however be extremely difficult to beat.

The event will be a showcase for surfing in the UK and will allow Local and Scottish surfers a chance to compete at the highest level in the sport. It also gives a chance to show the quality of surf Scotland has to offer. The last major event to take place in Thurso was the European Championships over 10 years ago.

On Saturday there will be a meeting for anyone interested to help re-establish the ‘Scottish Surfing Federation’. Following that the Headworx Scottish BPSA party will take place at Skinanis Night Club.

The competition would not be possible without the support of its sponsors: Headworx Europe, Dounreay, Skinanis Night Club, Momentum Surf Shop providing a prize of a new surfboard and Boardwise Surf Shop giving cash for the ‘Boardwise Best Barrel’.
