Spencer Hargraves wins Headworx Scottish BPSA Surf Contest

1st October 2002

In excellent quality 3’-4’ surf Spencer Hargraves wins the fourth event on the Headworx BPSA UK Tour. The result now puts him into 4th position on the ratings. Finishing second Alan Stokes (English National Champion) who also won the ‘Boardwise Best Barrel’ in his semi final heat. Third place went to South African Richard Sills with displays of radical contemporary surfing, performing an aerial 360 to clinch the ‘Momentum Surfboard Expression Session’. Finishing fourth came Steve Winter.

The event, scheduled to be held at Thurso East was moved to Brims Ness to take advantage of bigger and better quality surf conditions. It proved to be the right move with 5’- 6’ surf on day one, dropping to an epic 3’- 4’ barrelling swell on the final day. The waves allowed surfers to push the limits of their ability, deep tube rides rarely seen in events in the UK and powerful vertical turns were required to progress through heats.

Spencer Hargraves fulfilled the above requirements with style, in doing so winning back-to-back events on the Headworx BPSA UK Tour. Two weeks ago he won the Headworx Freedom SDS Jersey Open at the opposite end of the country.

The organisers would like to thank the sponsors: Headworx Europe, Momentum Surfboards, Boardwise Surf Shop, Donreay and Skinadis Night Club for all there help and support. For anyone who missed the event it can be viewed on Sky Sports latter next month.

The tour now moves onto Wales for the Headworx Welsh BPSA Surfing Championships to be held at Langland Bay October 19th-20th .
