Croyde Win British Inter-club Surf Championships
15th October 2002Croyde Win British Inter-club Surf Championships Croyde Surf Club win their tenth British Inter-club Surf Championships at Woolacombe Bay. They defeated the best surf teams from around the UK in changeable weather conditions.
After 36 heats of competition over the two days, Croyde were tied with Channel Coast Surf Club. The two tied teams then selected their best surfer for a final surf off. Scott Rannochan representing Croyde went head to head with Mark Vaughan of Channel Coast in a wave for wave Challenge. Local knowledge eventually gave Scott the edge in gale force winds and torrential rain.
An outstanding performance came from Wessex Surf Club who finished 3rd ahead of Porthleven 4th.
Croyde Surf Club will now compete in the European Interclub in Biarritz (France) on 1st-3rd November.
