Headworx Welsh BPSA Surfing Championships

21st October 2002

Alan Stokes pulled into a big barrel and earned a near perfect score to win the £1200 Headworx BPSA Welsh Open at Langland Bay near Swansea in stormy three to four foot surf. The win takes him to within striking distance of ratings leader, and fellow Newquay local, Mark Harris, after five events of the UK based tour. Harris was a loosing semi finalist in an event that attracted 40 of Britians best surfers plus a handful of travelling international surfers.

The final featured Nathan Phillips from Wales, Derek Bassed from Australia, Llewllyn Whittaker from South Africa as well as Englands Stokes. After the prizegiving a jubilant Stokes said that “ it’s great that a company like Headworx are giving surfers in this country the opportunity to compete at such a high level at different venues in the UK”

The tour that has already been to Cornwall, Jersey and Scotland continues next week in South Devon, Challaborough for the Surfing Life South Coast Challenge.
