Despite very poor accommodation and environmental conditions in Busan, Korea GB Powerlifting turned in absolutely fantastic overall results laying down a positive message for the future of Powerlifting and the current squads who are working towards 2012 via Bejing of course
2 Bronze medals from Adam Alderman (in his final year as a junior) who lifted a personal best 112.5kgs in the up to 48kgs category, also placing 11th overall in the senior section from 17 starters and Natalie Blake who lifted 87.5kgs to stave off three other lifters competing for the bronze in the up to 48kgs category were followed by newcomer Ali Jawad (junior) gaining silver by lifting 147.5kgs in the up to 75kgs category and ranking 12th overall in the senior section from 20 starters.
Jackie Wagstaff – newcomer in her first ever Powerlifting competition had to contend with nearly every challenge she would possibly face in Powerlifting and she overcome them admirably to complete her 3rd attempt on 40kgs successfully having timed out on the first and technically failed the second attempt – weighing in at only 35.7kgs in the up to 40kgs category there is anticipation of greater things to come
Two equal personal best performances from Jason Irving who, despite carrying an injury, lifted 172.5kgs (5kgs more than at the recent Commonwealth Games where he gained a silver medal) to place = 5th only 2.5kgs behind 4th place & 7.5kgs behind the Bronze medal and the other personal best from Chris Rattenbury who lifted a perfect final attempt of 155kgs in the up to 82.5kgs category
One piece of disappointing news was that Emma Brown sustained an unfortunate injury during training and had to withdraw from the competition. Emma had been lifting at her best form for two years.
The GB overall successful competition results were concluded on the final day by another Junior, Glen Puxley in the 100kgs+ category who lifted 151kgs (150kgs within the competition) to gain a new Junior World Record and a gold medal for his efforts, whilst narrowly missing out technically on a fourth attempt of 152.kgs to progress the World Record even further
