All Roads Lead to Pickering
13th September 2006Entries are already flooding in for arguably Yorkshire’s biggest off-road motorsport event of the year on Saturday, October 7, when the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship (BRC) makes its annual visit to Pickering and the North York Moors.
The 29th Trackrod Rally Yorkshire will again provide the perfect stage for many of the quickest and most talented drivers in the UK to parade their skills over the time-honoured, but not now so frequently used, ‘classic stages’ in Dalby, Cropton and Langdale forests.
The main event has this year been condensed from two days to one, while various supporting rallies ensure cars and competitors from right across the rallying spectrum and, with Friday’s scrutineering, central servicing of the cars, two purpose built spectator stages and Saturday night’s post rally celebrations all located at the Northern Events Arena within Pickering Showground, the whole package is set to be the most compact ever.
Defending British Champion and 2004 Trackrod Rally Yorkshire winner Mark Higgins tops a mouthwatering bill, which includes the Silverstone Competition Tyres BRC Stars of the Future, the BRC Rallymasters, a huge Historic Cup entry, National and Clubman’s rallies plus the traditional Landrover Challenge.
Fans from across the country will converge on the quaint tourist haven of North York Moors Railway terminus town Pickering and the extensive and undulating pine-clad forests just to the north to witness a diverse and colourful blend of high speed thrills and action.
Everything from the very latest state of the art rally cars to the spectacular tail-sliding rear-wheel drive vehicles of a world gone by, from the self-built prides of immeasurably enthusiastic local clubmen to British forces Landrovers will be on show..
Leeds-based Trackrod Motor Club, supported by almost every other motor club in the region, have developed their showpiece event from humble beginnings into one of the most popular and acclaimed rallies on the domestic calendar.
In addition to the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Championship, Silverstone Competition Tyres BRC Stars of the Future, and the BRC Rallymasters, all or some of the day’s 12 gravel stages will play host to rounds of the Mitsubishi Ralliart Evo Challenge, the MG Car Club ZR Rally Championship, the ARMAJARO-MSA British Historic Rally Championship incorporating the HRCR Historic Rally Challenge in association with Mintex, and four of the leading regional championships: the Competition Car Insurance EMAMC Multi-venue Championship, the Walkers/Techno 2 ANECCC Stage Rally Championship, the Kent Cams Northern Stage Rally Championship, the Roadrunner Phoenix Awards Stage Rally Championship (ANEMMC), the Peugeot 206 Masters and Peugeot 205 rally Scholarship.
