Rip Curl - English National Championships
25th April 2003International surf company Rip Curl will again support grassroots English surfing by sponsoring the English Championships to be held at Watergate Beach in Cornwall over the Mayday bank holiday weekend. The contest hosted by the Xtreme Academy and run by the English Surfing Federation will determine champions in 19 categories ranging from ten year old novices to 45 year old veterans of the sport.
As usual most interest will be focused on the Men's (Open) and Women's competition which always proves to be exciting and cut-throat contest between the best surfers in the UK.
Last years Men's champion Alan Stokes, 22, (from Newquay) used his victory to launch a successful summer campaign competing in Europe, while Woman's champ Robyn Davies, 24, (Helston) has success in several professional world ranked contests. Both should be back to defend their titles.
Entry forms are available from the website, and in the latest editions of Carve magazine. All in all over 150 competitors are expected to take part in what promises to be a festival of grassroots English surfing.
