Quiksilver Grommet Surfing Championships 2003
7th July 2003The best Grommet (under 14 & under 10) surfers in the UK competed at Watergate Bay over the weekend in the Quiksilver Grommet UK Surfing Championships to win the opportunity to surf in the European Quiksilver Grommet Championships in France later in the year.
Unfortunately the surf was small and deteriated during the event, however the surfers managed to make the most from the challenging conditions.
The eventual winners were last year’s title holders Tom Butler in the Under 14 and Leon Mansfield in the Under 10. The competition attracted the largest entry so far for a Grommet surf event in the UK, surfers from as young as 7 up to 14 competed.
The trophies were presented by some of the legends in world surfing: Jeff Hakman World Champion in the 70’s, Gary Elkerton twice and current Masters World Champion and Spencer Hargraves past European Professional Champion.
The British Surfing Association would like to thank Quiksilver for the continued support of the BSA and junior surfing in the UK by sponsoring this event.
