At the recent WUKO Senior European Karate Championships held in Liege, Belgium, Carnalea trio David Brashaw, Sam & Kevin Lewis made history by becoming the first ever Northern Ireland Wado-Ryu team to compete at international level.
The trio were delighted with fifth place in the mixed style team kata section.
David added 'The team performance was a great achievement, considering we beat teams from the stronger karate style of Shito Ryu. Had it been just our style, we would have collected a bronze or maybe the silver.
In the Veteran's Wado-Ryu Kata category David collected a bronze.
'Personally I was delighted to get in the medals again, after missing out on getting to last year's Worlds.
All in all it was a fantastic event. If you add in my fourth in the Senior Wado-Ryu kata final along with Kevin & Sam being placed 6th & 7th respectively in their first major European competition, we have a lot to be proud of and a fantastic learning experience that we can pass on to our junior students.'
