The England U23 korfball team produced a great first-half performance against favourites Chinese Taipei but it was not quite enough to secure the win needed to make the semi-finals, as the team eventually went down 17-11.
Despite the loss, the team's tactical play earned praise from Dutch director of coaching Ben Crum.
The scores were level after 15 minutes but the hosts managed to get their noses in front to go in at half time 8-6 up. The England team had surprised most neutral observers with the quality of their play and were probably unlucky to trail at half time.
In the second period, despite England having more chances, Chinese Taipei was more accurate with their shooting, scoring almost 1 in 2 of their shots, and eventually took control as the England team tired in trying to chase the game.
England's top scorer was Joe Bedford with 4 goals, followed by Otto Fabius with 3, Luke Francis with 2 and Jocelyn Hoffman and Rebecca Woolmer with one each.
England will now play the Czech Republic to try and earn a place in the 5th-6th playoff, while Chinese Taipei proceed to a semi-final place against Russia.
