Takumi and Monique are our Athletes of the Month
23rd January 2009University of Bath students Takumi Ake and Monique Wood are the latest winners of the TeamBath Athlete of the Month Awards, which are supported by the Fat Face store in Bath.
Takumi Ake has been one of TeamBath FC’s star performers in the Blue Square South in recent weeks.
The Japanese Sports Performance student struck an outstanding solo effort to bag his side all three points in a 1-0 win at Weston-super-Mare on Boxing Day and then scored a late equaliser to earn a point at Welling in midweek.
Meanwhile shooter Monique Wood has impressed in helping TeamBath Toucans netball team to the top of the Premier League 1 table for the first time in 17 years. Monique, a 20-year-old Sports Performance student is also a member of TeamBath’s Superleague squad but has missed the start of the campaign after suffering a shin injury.
She has shown determination to battle back from injury and produced two strong performances in the shooting circle as TeamBath Toucans secured crucial wins against two of the top teams in the league – Linden and Hucclecote. She is aiming to win a place in the England under-21 team for this year’s World Youth Championships.
