TeamBath pair in GB European Championships team

14th April 2009

Two TeamBath judo players have been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Championships, which take place in Georgia later this month.

Andy Burns, who is studying Coach Education and Sports Development at the University of Bath, contests the under-90kg class at the championships, while Sian Wilson competes in the women’s under-78kg class.

Burns struck bronze at last month’s English Senior Open Championships, while Wilson collected silver.

The pair both secured their places at fight-offs with other British players who were also in contention for places on the team in their weight divisions.

They are now members of a 12-strong British team for the championships in Tbilisi in Georgia from 24th to 26th April.

Four other TeamBath players are reserves – Jan Gosiewksi in the under-73kg class, Tom Reed at under-81kg, Kate Walker at under-63kg and Gemma Gibbons at under-70kg.

Britain’s head coach, Patrick Roux, is a former teaching fellow in performance judo at the University of Bath.
