Five-strong team of shooters set for Korean challenge

A five-strong team of Britain’s top disability shooters will this weekend fly to Korea to compete in the 2009 IPC Shooting Open Asian Championships - Jikji Cup, to take on the best in the world.
Following the cancellation of this summer’s European Championships, set to take place in Poland in July, this event will now be one of the main competition of the season for Britain’s shooters.
The five-strong team, made up of Deanna Coates (Yateley, Hampshire), Matt Skelhon (Stilton, Cambs), Nathan Milgate (Herne Bay, Kent), Karen Butler (Bristol) and James Bevis (Hereford), will be joined in Korea by Head Coach Pasan Kularatne and Coach Louise Minett.
Britain’s shooters recently returned from the Polish Open with three gold and three silver medals.
Disability Target Shooting Great Britain (DTSGB) Head Coach and Team Manager Pasan Kularatne said: “We were all disappointed to hear that the European Championships will no longer be run this summer but we’re now more determined to make the most of the other competitions in our busy calendar.
“We’ve picked a strong team for this event and I’m confident that they will perform well in Korea.”
The 2009 IPC Shooting Open Asian Champs - Jikji Cup, takes place in CheongJu City, Korea from April 23 to 29, 2009. The team fly to Korea on Sunday, April 19 and return on May 1.
