British pairs finish 13th at Spanish Masters
11th May 2009Two University of Bath-based British beach volleyball pairings finished 13th at the first European Championship Tour competition of the season at Gran Canaria.
The British teams of Lucy Boulton & Denise Johns and Steve Grotowski & Gregg Weaver had to battle their way through the qualification draw for a place in the main draw of the Spanish Masters.
Boulton & Johns went down 21-15, 16-21, 15-10 to the Russian pairing of Evgenia Ukolova & Maria Bratkova in the women’s main draw while Grotowski & Weaver were edged out by Spain’s Francisco Javier Luna Pineda & Francisco Marco 21-19, 18-21, 16-14.
Shauna Mullin & Zara Dampney and Jody Gooding & Jake Sheaf won their opening games in the qualification round but didn’t progress through to the main draw.
