Double gold for Darren

14th May 2009

TeamBath judo player Darren Harris is celebrating double success at the German Open competition for visually impaired athletes.

The Beijing 2008 Paralympian won both the men’s under-66kg title and the open title for players in the under-60, under-67 and under-73kg classes at the competition in Schmalkdalden.

Harris did it in style, winning all seven of his contests in his first major competition of the year.

It means Harris has now completed a hat-trick of successive golds in the under-66kg class at the German Open, following victories in 2007 and 2008.

“I wanted to get in as many matches in as possible, so it was good to win all seven,” he said.

Harris’ big target for the year is the European Championships, which take place in Hungary in July. He won silver in the under-66kg class at the 2007 European Championships in Azerbaijan.
