Hundreds prepare to celebrate Olympic ideals
1st June 2009Hundreds of people are set to celebrate the Olympic ideals by taking part in the annual Olympic Day run at the University of Bath.
Olympic Day is on 23rd June – the anniversary of the founding of the International Olympic Committee in 1894.
But this year, as last year, the Olympic Day run at the University of Bath takes places early to coincide with the Bath and North East Somerset K3 Games for secondary schools. It gets underway at 12.30pm on Friday 12th June.
That means hundreds of pupils from schools across Bath and North East Somerset will be taking part in the event, which will be officially started by Paralympic Games silver medallist and University of Bath student Ben Rushgrove.
Anyone can take part in the run, which is organised by the University of Bath in partnership with the British Olympic Foundation. Adults cover a 5k course and children run over a 3k route.
Anyone who participates will be joining tens of thousands of other people celebrating the ideals of the Olympic Movement around the world – some 168 National Olympic Committees worldwide take part in the Olympic Day run each year.
