Our Space summer camp Lake District
Sunday 9 August –Thursday 13 August 2009

Closing date: 8 July

The Equality and Human Rights Commission are now receiving applications for this year's Our Space summer camp. Our Space is aimed at 14 and 15 year olds from different backgrounds (including young people with disabilities) who come together every year for a week of outdoor activities and training to help build their leadership skills and confidence. Its main objective is to give young people the skills, confidence and ideas to create a fairer society for all.

The programme includes outdoors adventure education activities, such as orienteering, navigation, first aid training, and canoeing and rafting. The E&HRC will also run modules to discuss diversity, equality and rights and give participants time to talk about what it takes to be a leader.

Many of last year's participants are still in touch with each other and take part in the Commission's projects and events. Some of them will be peer leaders at Our Space 2009. They will work with participants during the week to ensure they have a great experience.

There are 100 places up for grabs at this year's camp and we want to hear from individuals who are interested in or are curious about equality and human rights and want to make a real difference in their community.
