Tom and Lucy are our athletes of the month
15th October 2009Judo player Tom Reed and beach volleyball player Lucy Boulton are the latest winners of the TeamBath athletes of the month awards, which are sponsored by Oakley and Vousden Opticians.
The pair received rapturous applause when they were presented with their awards in front of a full house of 1800 people at half-time in Tuesday night’s England v Australia netball international.
Tom, a University of Bath Business Administration student, collected his award for winning silver at the GB World Cup competition in Birmingham.
After dispatching opponents from Russia and Germany in the earlier rounds of the under-81kg class, he went down to Euan Burton, Britain’s Beijing 2008 Olympian, in the final.
Lucy, and her partner, Denise Johns, just missed out on the bronze medal competing at the English Masters volleyball event in Blackpool.
The pair lost their bronze medal match to Austria’s Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger, but it was the highest placed finish yet achieved by a British team at a European Championship Tour event.
Tom and Lucy were presented with their awards by Gary McQuaid, Oakley Traditional Sports Marketing Manager, and Tyron Dawkins, Oakley’s Area Sales Manager, at Tuesday’s international netball match.
Gary McQuaid said: “Oakley is delighted to be integrally involved in this initiative which recognises individual achievements across a broad variety of sports here at the University of Bath. We look forward to following each winner’s progress over the coming years.”
