Chris is Suffolk’s sports personality of the year
21st October 2009University of Bath student Chris Walker-Hebborn has been named Suffolk’s Sports Personality of the Year.
The 19-year-old, who is studying Sports Performance and training at the British Swimming Intensive Training Centre at the University of Bath, collected the award at a ceremony in Ipswich.
Chris, who is originally from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, made his World Championships debut for the British Gas swimming team in Rome in July, when he set a British record for the 200m backstroke.
He followed that up by setting a British short course record for the 200m backstroke at the British Gas Swimming Grand Prix. Chris is coached by Dave McNulty.
Chris’ performances had already earned him the TeamBath athlete of the month award, which is sponsored by Oakley and Vousden Opticians.
The Suffolk awards are run by Suffolk Sports, Suffolk County Council and BBC Radio Suffolk.
