Type tops podium in Winterberg

30th November 2009

Britain’s Chris Type made a bright start to the Skeleton Intercontinental Cup, finishing fifth and first in the opening two rounds of the competition, which took place at the Winterberg track in Germany.

His performances have put him 13th in the overall FIBT (Federation Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Togogganing) world rankings.

Type led the field at the halfway mark in the first round, only to slip down the field to fifth. Team-mate Dave Swift finished just above him in fourth.

But Type made no mistake in the second competition. He secured the fastest time on the first run, despite having a broken runner. A quick change of runner at the break was followed by a near flawless second run to take victory.

Swift showed his consistency by finishing fourth for the second time in as many days. He is now 16th in the overall world rankings. Ant Sawyer finished ninth and 16th in the two Winterberg races.

Britain’s Sarah Sydney finished 13th and 14th in the women’s Intercontinental Cup races, with Maggie Davies 20th and 15th.

The British World Cup squad return to action at Cesana in Italy on Friday (4th December), while the third round of the Intercontinental Cup taking place in Konigssee in Germany on Saturday.
