Bromley eighth at Igls for sixth overall

Britain’s Kristan Bromley rounded off his 2009/10 Skeleton World Cup campaign with an eighth place finish in Igls, Austria today (Saturday) to finish sixth overall in the World Cup rankings.
 
With today’s eighth and final round of the World Cup doubling as the European Championships, Bromley’s performance today also earned him seventh in the Europeans.
 
Andy Wood came 14th in the final round of the World Cup, two places ahead of Adam Pengilly, giving them 10th and 12th places respectively in the European Championships.
 
Wood finished 16th in the overall World Cup series, with Pengilly, who has spend some of the session on the Intercontinental Cup circuit, 20th.
 
Latvia’s Martins Dukurs struck gold in Igls – giving him his fourth World Cup win of the season and also earning him the European crown. That also wrapped up his first overall World Cup title.
 
Meanwhile, there were celebrations for the Great Britain team at Park City in the USA where Chris Type became the Intercontinental Cup champion.
 
Type’s silver medal behind John Daly of the USA gave him the overall Intercontinental Cup crown following a season that has also seen him take two gelds and two bronzes in the eight race series. Type stepped up from finishing second overall in the 2008/9 season.
 
Ant Sawyer finished just outside the medals in Park City in fourth, for fourth overall, while Dave Swift finished sixth in Park City.
 
In the women’s Intercontinental Cup race, Sarah Sydney (GBR) achieved the best result of her career, finishing seventh.
