5th February 2010Former England and Bath rugby coach Brian Ashton has extended his contract to work as Coaching Consultant at the University of Bath’s Department of Sport Development and Recreation.
Brian, who led England to the finals of the 2007 Rugby World Cup, teamed up with TeamBath just over a year ago.
His contract has been extended for 2010 and he will continue to focus on liaising with key organisations, such as National Governing Bodies and professional organisations, as well as mentoring and developing coaches based at the University of Bath.
He said: “I’m looking forward to renewing the work I did within the Sports Training Village last year and hopefully extending it to other areas.”
During the last year Brian has worked with coaches across a wide range of sports.
Jess Garland, head netball coach at the University of Bath, is one of the talented young TeamBath coaches to have benefitted from Brian’s experience and advice. “Brian has provided me and my coaching team with invaluable advice during his time at the University of Bath,” she said.
“It’s fabulous to know we have someone of Brian’s immense experience working with us.”
Professor Kevin Edge, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Bath, added: “We are delighted that Brian has agreed to continue his work here. His wealth of coaching experience at the very top level of sport can only benefit the talented young coaches we have here at Bath.”
Brian was assistant or head coach with Bath Rugby between 1989 and 1997, and then coached Ireland before moving on to an assistant role with England. He was England head coach in 2006 and 2008 and England National Academy Manager from 2002 to 2006.
