In association with Luton Borough Council and ‘Inspired’, Rounders England is delivering a community rounders tournament and taster session in Wardown Park on Saturday 8th May 2010.  The competition is one of the many exciting activities that form part of the Take 3 4 Life day.

The rounders activities are split into two main sessions; a mixed tournament for local pre-registered teams is organised to start at 12:15, followed by an afternoon taster session open to the whole community from 15:00.  The tournament is for mixed-gender teams, with a maximum of nine players per side (larger squads and substitutions are allowed), and a minimum of four female players per team.  Entries for the tournament are welcome from all quarters, for example local businesses, University Departments and groups of friends, are encouraged to get involved, however all entries must be received at the latest by Friday 23rd April.  If you would like to enter a team into the tournament please email beth.wild@roundersengland.co.uk for more information and a registration form.  Please note that there is no cost to enter, however there are a maximum number of spaces available, so submit your registration forms early to avoid disappointment!  The taster session will comprise of introductory coaching to batting, bowling and fielding, finishing with small sided games, and is open to everyone who would like to have a go, running on a turn up and play basis, and is free for all participants.

In addition to rounders there are plenty of other things to get stuck in to: football; rugby tournament; tennis; cycling; swimming; self-defence; dance; healthy eating demonstration and health checks.   Following the great success of last year there will be another It’s a Knockout competition for teams.  Organised by a professional events company, teams will be tackling seven games over 2 ½ hours such as a game where teams try to fire sticky balls onto sticky targets and a relay where teams collect giant jigsaw pieces and assemble them into a picture. Luton residents, particularly local businesses, are being encouraged to enter as a team of 10-12 people at a cost of just £150 per team.
