Yen-Hsun Lu in AEGON Championships quarter-finals

15th June 2012

Yen-Hsun Lu sealed his place in the quarter-finals of the AEGON Championships after upsetting third seed Janko Tipsarevic on the grass courts at The Queen's Club.

Lu began his campaign to reach the quarter-finals on Thursday and claimed the opening set 6-3 before the match was postponed overnight due to poor weather conditions.

On Friday, as the second set got underway, it seemed that Tipsarevic who is ranked 8 in the world, was in better form. The Serbian, who has never lost to Lu in their two previous meetings, stormed back into the match taking the set 6-2. However the third was a completely different story.

World ranked 57 Lu served extremely well, winning 83% of points off his first serve. Both players had chances to break but neither could convert seeing the match to a tie-break. Again it was a close contest but it was 28 year-old Lu who clinched it 6-3. 2-6, 7-6(5)

Lu will play again today on Centre Court against sixth seed Marin Cilic of Croatia.

Later on, British pairing Colin Fleming & Ross Hutchins will also take to Centre Court as they play Bob & Mike Bryan.

Elsewhere, tenth seed David Nalbandian (ARG) defeated Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 on the number 1 court at The Queen’s Club.
