Radwanska proves too strong for Watson at Wimbledon

29th June 2012

Agnieszka Radwanska has ended British hope in the women's singles after a straight sets victory over Heather Watson on Centre Court at Wimbledon on Friday.

The Polish world No.3 proved too much of a match for the British No.4, winning 6-0, 6-2 in one hour of play.

"I didn't get the best start," said Watson afterwards. "Well, it was a good first game and then I just kind of went slow from there. By the time I knew it, it was already a set gone.

"She's No.3 in the world for a reason. She didn't miss. But I'm fine, it's a great learning experience for me. I've learnt a lot today and I'm going to come back stronger and improve from this."

The third seed will now go on to face Nadia Petrova or Camila Giorgi in the last 16 as she bids to better her best Wimbledon result of reaching the quarter-finals.

In the men's doubles event Britain's Jamie Murray and USA's Eric Butorac went down in straight sets to French duo Arnaud Clement & Michael Llodra, beaten 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
