Murray leads Cilic as rain stops play at Wimbledon

2nd July 2012

Andy Murray was up 7-5, 3-1 on Marin Cilic in their fourth round match in the men's singles at Wimbledon before rain stopped proceedings on Court 1.

The British No.1 was a break down early in the first set before recovering to level up the scores and the opener went with serve until 6-5.

However in the 12th game the British No.1 stepped up a gear and broke his Croatian opponent to love to take the set 7-5.

Murray seized the initiative and gained an early break in the second as well. The fourth seed was leading 3-1, 40-0, when rained halted proceedings for the day.

The match will resume at 12pm on Tuesday on Court 1. The men through to the quarter-finals already are Djokovic, Federer and Youzhny with the remaining matches incomplete.

In the doubles the remaining British player in the men's event is Jonny Marray, who alongside Freddy Nielsen, was close to upsetting eighth seeds Qureshi & Rojer, leading 7-6, 7-6, 4-3 when the rain arrived.

In the junior singles events there were defeats for Tommy Bennett, Peter Ashley, Eden Silva, Georgina Sellyn and Jonny O'Mara but a strong win for Katy Dunne, beating tenth seeded American Chalena Scholl (USA) 6-3, 6-4.
