Murray and Marray move into Wimbledon quarter-finals
3rd July 2012
Andy Murray has moved into the last eight of the men's singles and Jonny Marray is into the men's doubles quarter-finals after both recorded victories on Tuesday at Wimbledon.
Murray was resuming at a set and 3-1 up vs Marin Cilic on Court 1 and despite more rain breaks eventually came through comfortably in straight sets.
"I did well today," said the British No.1 afterwards. "He started the third set well. He had a few chances. I came up with some big serves. I served very well in the third set especially."
Murray, the highest seed left in the bottom half of the draw will now play 7th seed David Ferrer in the quarter-finals. On facing the Spaniard on grass Murray continued:
"To me he's not a clay court specialist. He won last week on grass, so he's won, what, eight matches in a row on the grass. He's been in the semifinals of Australia, I think semifinals of US Open, as well, and now he's starting to play better on grass."
There was also an impressive win for Britain's Jonny Marray on Tuesday as he came through a five set match with his Danish partner Freddie Nielsen.
The pair won 7-6(5), 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 5-7, 7-5 vs eighth seeds Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi & Jean-Julien Rojer to set up a quarter-final against James Cerretani & Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the men's doubles.
In a match which the pair resumed with a two set, 4-3, lead they were forced into a fifth set before eventually coming through on their seventh matchpoint.
In the juniors Josh Ward-Hibbert retired at 0-6, 0-2 in his first round match, while 2011 boys' singles runner-up Liam Broady defeated American Stefan Kozlov 6-7(3), 6-0, 6-4.
