Laura Robson through to Guangzhou final

Laura Robson has become the first British woman through to a singles WTA final in 22 years after a straight sets defeat over Sorana Cirstea in China.
 
The British No.1 defeated the Romanian 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals of the Guangzhou Open to match Jo Durie's 1990 appearance in the final of Newport.
 
The last British woman to win a WTA singles final was Sara Gomer in July 1988 in Aptos.
 
To contest the title, Robson will play world No.53 Hsieh Su-Wei from 8am BST on Saturday. In their one and only meeting in 2011, Hsieh was the victor after a 7-6(4), 6-4 win in Osaka.

Laura Robson reaches Guangzhou semi-final
 
Laura Robson has progressed through to the semi-finals of the GRC Bank Guangzhou International Women's Open.
 
74th-ranked Robson, who is now in her second WTA singles semi-final, defeated world number 47 Peng Shuai 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 in just over three hours to seal her place in the last four.
 
The British No.1 and Olympic silver medallist plays third seed Sorana Cirstea for a place in the final.
 
The last British woman to reach a WTA singles final was Jo Durie in 1990 in Newport, while the last British woman to win a WTA singles final was Sara Gomer in July 1988 in Aptos.

Laura Robson has continued her impressive run of form by moving into the quarter-finals of the GRC Bank Guangzhou International Women's Open after defeating Jie Zheng, the second seed 6-3, 6-3. Robson, next plays seventh seed Shuai Peng.
