Laura Robson finished as the runner up in Guangzhou after a thrilling final on Saturday.
The British No.1 was second best in the first half of the match as Hsieh moved into a 6-3, 5-3 lead and set up five championship points.
However the British 18 year old saved all five and won seven games in a row to hit back, taking the second set 7-5 and opening up a 3-0 lead in the third.
But the momentum swung back the way of the player from Chinese Taipei who won five games in a row before closing out the match with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 scoreline.
Robson was unable to become the first British woman to win a WTA title in 24 years, since Sara Gomer in California in 1988, six years before she was born.
