Heather Watson wins opening match in Osaka

Heather Watson has begun her HP Open campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Slovenian Polona Hercog.

The British No.2, who is ranked 71 in the world, will play either Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues or Italian Camila Giorgi.

Fellow Briton Laura Robson is seeded eighth in Japan and plays Greek Eleni Danilidou in her opening round match on Tuesday.

In the doubles 20 year-old Watson has partnered with Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan.
