Dan Evans causes upset in Loughborough
7th October 2012
The second day of main draw at the AEGON GB Pro-Series Loughborough saw the first upset of the week when British No.5 Dan Evans beat second seed and world No.92 Aljaz Bedene.
Evans, who trained at Loughborough in his teenage years, showed the form which saw him beat two top 100 players for Britain in the Davis Cup back in February. Having won the first set 6-4, Bedene levelled the match when taking the second set on a tie-break, however 22 year-old Evans produced some top quality tennis in the final set to secure victory.
Evans now plays another former Loughborough player and British No.3 Jamie Baker on Wednesday not before 1.00pm.
Meanwhile Ashley Hewitt takes on third seed Dudi Sela on court one following the Evans / Baker match
A number of British pairs have made it through to the quarter-final of the men’s doubles. Top seeds Jamie Delgado & Ken Skupski play fellow Brits Josh Goodall & Jamie Murray, whilst Richard Bloomfield & Harry Meehan have also made it through to the last eight.
Play starts at 10.00am Wednesday with 16 year-old Katie Boulter in action against Swiss player Lara Michel in the first round of the women’s main draw.
