Harriet Dart finishes as runner-up in Edgbaston

Harriet Dart finished as the runner-up in the AEGON GB Pro-Series Edgbaston women’s singles. Dart who was appearing in her first $10k final, played top seed Renata Voracova of the Czech Republic missing out 6-4, 6-2.
 
In the opening set, both players traded breaks of serve until Voracova held to take a 4-3 lead and broke Dart again for 5-3. However Dart fought back when serving Voracova for the set at 5-3 but the Czech broke straight back for the set.
 
In the final set, both players held serve for the first two games, then Dart broke to lead 2-1. Voracova broke back for 2-2 after a game with four deuces and then won four games in a row to take the set 6-2. This gave her the match and title.
 
Meanwhile in the women’s doubles, British duo Anna Fitzpatrick & Jade Windley won a consecutive AEGON GB Pro-Series doubles title after defeating Martina Kubicikova (CZE) & Chantal Skamlova (SVK) 6-2, 6-3.
 
Speaking after their victory, Fitzpatrick said: “It’s nice to get back to back doubles titles and I know Jade has done well in the singles here so she has had an especially good week.”
 
Windley, who reached the semi-finals in the singles added: “I am going to Spain for my last tournament of the year and then it’s a training block in December.”
