Katy Dunne through to third round of Junior Australian Open

British junior Katy Dunne has reached the third round of the Junior Australian Open with a straight sets win in Melbourne Park.
 
Dunne, the thirteenth seed, defeated Katherine Ip of Hong Kong 6-4, 6-4, in just over an hour to set up a third round meeting with Russia’s Elizaveta Kulichkova.
 
Dunne was also in action in the girls’ doubles with American Christina Makarova against Kamonwan Buayam & Ziyue Sun but the pair were defeated 6-1, 6-0.
 
Elsewhere Harriet Dart & Ching-Wen Hsu were overcome by Antonia Lottner & Erin Routliffe  6-3, 6-2.

Big Names
 
Second seed Maria Sharapova continued her march through the women's draw by easing past Ekatrina Makarova 6-2, 6-2 in their quarter final.  The Russian next faces 2011 finalist Li Na who snapped the 13 match winning streak of Agnieszka Radwanska with a 7-5, 6-3 win.
 
Two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic overcame a second set blip but moved past fifth seed Tomas Berdych 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to seal his place in the last four.
 
The Comeback
 
David Ferrer trailed compatriot Nicolas Almagro by two sets and 3-5 and was three times just two points from defeat but battled back impressively to reach his second Australian Open semi-final. Almagro served for the match three times but faded in the decider as Ferrer was victorious 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(4), 6-2.
 
The Upset
 
The Williams sisters were defeated in the quarter finals of the Women's doubles by Italian top seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci. The Americans served for the match twice in the second set and led 3-0 in the decider but it was Errani and Vinci who pulled through 3-6, 7-6(1), 7-5.
