Heather Watson nominated for Fed Cup Heart Award

5th March 2013

British No.1 Heather Watson has been nominated by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for a Fed Cup Heart Award after helping Great Britain into a promotion play-off in Eilat, Israel last month.

The Award aims to recognise players who have represented their country with distinction, shown exceptional courage on court and demonstrated outstanding commitment to their team.

If selected for the next tie by Captain Judy Murray, Watson will spearhead the GB team from April 20-21 when they travel to play Argentina away for a place in Fed Cup World Group II.

ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said: “The Fed Cup Heart Award is entering its fifth year and continues to recognise the outstanding contributions made by players to their country and the competition. Fed Cup is celebrating its 50th birthday in the ITF centenary year, and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of all the players during this time who have helped Fed Cup grow to enjoy the success that it does today.”
