Huddersfield Giants have extended the contract of centre Joe Wardle until the end of the 2017 season. The 21 year old has scored 30 tries in 57 appearances for the club and his retention was viewed as a key part of the clubs long term plans.

Huddersfield Giants centre Joe Wardle was keen to express his delight at signing a new contract with the Claret and Gold and underline his determination to continue improving:

“I am pleased to have signed a new deal as it gives me and my family some security. The way the club has progressed over the past few years and the way it continues to progress with wanting to win things it’d be stupid to want to be anywhere else.

“I’m 21 years old and I still have a lot to learn. I learn a lot from playing alongside Brett, Leroy and Broughy and I am sure that my best years are ahead of me. I will continue to try my best and improve and hopefully I will continue to play because of that.

“We are putting a good squad together now and if we can stay together then we can continue pushing for titles. Hopefully we can continue winning and then the silverware will follow.”
Huddersfield Giants Head Coach Paul Anderson also commented on the deal which see’s Wardle extend his stay at the John Smith’s Stadium:

“We are pleased to recruit Joe on a long term deal at the Huddersfield Giants. Joe has matured as player since his arrival at the club and as he is only 21 I believe that his best years are still ahead of him.

“Joe is an important member of the squad who consistently performs with high levels of intensity. Joe can hold his own in defence and yet prove to be a valuable attacking threat and it is always nice to have those sorts of players within the squad.”

The Huddersfield Giants’ Managing Director Richard Thewlis also commented on the deal which he hopes will see one of the Giants’ hot prospects mature into a top Super League player:

"Joe had over a year to run on his current arrangement but was keen to obtain some long term security which we were very pleased to facilitate.

"He quickly established himself in the team upon his arrival and has gone from strength to strength and this extension is richly deserved. Clearly he has age on his side and hopefully even better seasons and form to look forward to as he grows and matures as a professional player. "
