Murray misses out on US Open main draw

23rd August 2013

Team Bath MCTA Academy player Sam Murray missed out on a place in the main draw of the US Open when she was edged out in a second qualifying round contest.

Murray, currently ranked 190 in the world, went down 6-4 7-5 to Taylor Townsend of the USA in last night’s match in New York.

The US Open was the first time Murray has played in a Grand Slam qualifying tournament and defeat to Townsend followed a 6-4 6-1 win over Australia’s Arina Rodionova in the first qualifying round.

Murray has climbed almost 100 places in the WTA rankings this season – she ended 2012 with a world ranking of 283.
