Four Year Deal for England Knights Star

9th October 2013

England Knights wingman Jodie Broughton has signed a four year contract with League Leaders Shield Winners Huddersfield Giants. The 25 year old former fastest man in Super League winner will join up in early November alongside new recruits Chris Bailey and Antonio Kaufusi adding further strike power to Paul Anderson’s new-look 2014 squad.

Broughton has scored 56 tries in 77 Super League games and has joined in his words “to win silverware. “

Jodie Broughton commented:

“I am absolutely delighted to be part of this club for the next four years. I had a few options on the table but I knew Huddersfield were the club for me. Their vision for the future really excited me and I want to be playing play-off rugby and pushing for the England Squad.  I think I'll settle in nicely at the club and it will help me demonstrate my full potential which I  don't  think we have seen yet. I enjoyed my time at Salford, and will always be thankful for my time there, but now it’s time for a new chapter.

Paul Anderson commented:

Jodie has a fantastic attribute that we have been lacking over the last few years which is genuine speed and we now have a lot of variety in our outside backs. He is definitely going to add to our environment and there will be some very strong competition for places in this area. He is versatile and can play on the left or right, on the wing or in the centre.
Jodie is a competitor and he has got a real appetite to want learn and to do well. He has got his best football in front of him and we are confident that we can improve him technically, tactically and physically. He wants to come and improve as well and he is going to be good for our environment because he’s a good bloke. Like all of us at the Giants, he wants to be successful and he is another part of the jigsaw that comes together for 2014.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis said that his club was now receiving more phone calls than they were making in respect of recruitment policy:

“The reality of our place in the pecking order for players so to speak is hugely different from that of a few years back,“ he said. "We have players and managers actively seeking us as they recognise that our environment, coaching team and squad is one that has every chance to challenge for honours which you imagine is what all players would want. They should want to play in the big games and we are consistently now in that mix with the League Leaders shield win obviously having a very positive effect for us. Jodie has been a player that over the years that has been pushing for full international selection and we hope that in our side he can make that step up and also score plenty of tries for our club. Everyone loves seeing a flying wingman hurtling down the touchline and in Jodie we believe we have one of the quickest who will add a new dimension to our play and I am sure he will become a firm fans favourite here.
